Star of David

One of the questions that came up in class was, "How did the German soldiers know whether people were Jewish or not?"

We talked about the yellow star of David that the Jews were ordered to wear on their clothing whenever they went out in public. This was a way of identifying whether someone was Jewish or not. Here is a picture of the yellow cloth star that Hana was forced to wear whenever she went outside.
Today In Hana's Suitcase, we learned about the artwork that was created by the children in the Jewish ghetto. Here is one of Hana's drawings from Theresienstadt.

Hana drew this picture of people getting off a train while she was at Theresienstadt.

First They Came ...

What connections can you make to the poem "First They Came ..." by Reverend Martin Niemoller.
